The Coolest Thing Ever

My kids are back at school now (their second week), and I think it might be time for Mom to go back to school as well.

I just found out about the most amazing thing. Free online courses from MIT!! A huge offering. They have 2000 classes to choose from. They provide lecture notes, exams and videos of virtually all courses they offer. Here's what they say on the website:

MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW) is a web-based publication of virtually all MIT course content. OCW is open and available to the world and is a permanent MIT activity.

What is MIT OpenCourseWare?

MIT OpenCourseWare is a free publication of MIT course materials that reflects almost all the undergraduate and graduate subjects taught at MIT.
  • OCW is not an MIT education.
  • OCW does not grant degrees or certificates.
  • OCW does not provide access to MIT faculty.
  • Materials may not reflect entire content of the course.

How do I register to use MIT OpenCourseWare?

There is no registration or enrollment process because OCW is not a credit-bearing or degree-granting initiative.

Missy here again. I'm really excited about this. I've always said I would love to be a permanent student. (Of course, my kids think I'm crazy.) :)

I'm considering some refresher courses in biology. Would love to get updated on microbiology since I've been away from it for so long, but they don't offer as much in that area. I'd also love to study other topics that I've never had before. If you're interested in checking it out, click here. Let me know how it goes!

Radio Interview on Wednesday!

I'm going to be interviewed on a local radio station on Wednesday the 17th. It's on Faith Community Radio, WIMO AM 1300. So if you're in the Bethlehem area (Bethlehem, Georgia, that is!), please tune in from 9:00-9:30 a.m. (Eastern time) for the Dottie Coffman Show. You can also visit the
station website and click to listen live.

I'm sure I'll be nervous, but Dottie is always a great interviewer and makes it fun!

Do you read YA (Young Adult) novels?

I love reading YA. Maybe I'm just young at heart. Then again, most of the ones I've read are just fantastic stories no matter your age. I've read them for years but have recently gotten on a kick reading several in a row. It started when I read the free YA I was given at the RWA conference, a RITA award winner, The Iron King by Julie Kagawa. An amazing book. Amazing series (had to swipe my son's Kindle to download the next books while on vacation!)

I just saw information about a YA author tour in several smaller southern towns. What a fun idea! It's got my brain clicking about possible future book tours with some of my author friends... I'll let you know if we ever manage to plan one. :)

Here's a link to the blog site for the tour, called Ash 2 Nash (Asheville to Nashville) if you're interested in finding out more. Click here.

Touching Video

My son shared this video with me. It's of the reunion of a soldier with his dog after he returned from Afghanistan. Very sweet! We can have such special bonds with our pets.
